Having taught classrooms of healthcare professionals, I feel it is necessary to find a way to relate to each individual student not only at the level of learning or expertise they've experienced, but also through personality and behavioral traits as well. These individuals will be taking care of the general population and I want them to be personable, confident, and skilled in their care giving.

This is hard to do sometimes in the e-learning environment because you do not see their daily behavior and how they physically interact with others. They have to remain dedicated to the subject at… >>>

To this point in my 37 year career, I have not experienced conflict in the classroom.  I accredit that to my level of interacting with the students and the fact that they must apply to become part of my program.  Being part of a program they are vested in the learning process.  I have enjoyed learning the types of students that can wreak havoc in the online classroom and will take these suggestions to heart.

I use asynchronous discussion forums much more than synchronous.  I am excited to have learned the formatting for sucessful learning in both situations of discussion.  I intend to use synchronous more now that I understand the guidelines better.

I use a student learning contract.  I usually have three negotiable and three non-negotiable items as well as my teaching resposibilities.  If you are interested I can send a file for you to format for your needs.  lori.rager@usu.edu

I feel that student interaction is key in the learning process.  As instructors sharing our goals, credentials and interests allows the student to view us not only in authority but in a personal aspect.  It allows students to interact with us as "human beings" and not just as an authoritative figure in the classroom.

Online learning is a challenge for me in the aspect of showing myself to the students.  I like to think of myself as an instructor slash entertainer in the face to face classroom.  I don't seem to pull that off very well in the recorded lesson/lecture for student viewing.  I have never been comfortable in front of a camera however I have learned how to instruct by IVC-Interactive Video Broadcasting.

The COVID-19 instruction of prepared video instruction was difficult for me.  I found myself going to fast or not interjecting enough question for thought processing.  I did find it much… >>>

Tianda you hit the nail on the head!  I really wonder sometimes what students actually perceive given the vast number of ways you can explain, visualize or write instruction.  I always try to remain open to the perspectives of my students adn allow them to discuss why they interpreted a question/comment a certain way.

I feel it is a learning process to hear what they have to say even if the majority of the time I must add more detail or constructive criticism.

I find it very difficult to come up with several individual responses to the same discussion topic question.  Does anyone else have this dilemma?
