I encourage you to give the facebook idea a try and see how it works for you. Thanks for the comments Tammy.
Do you have ideas on how you would go about identifying an online student that is cheating Shenetha?
It sounds like you are saying that paying attention to your students and their styles is one of the keys to identifying cheating in an online environment. Is that correct Rick?
Thanks for your comments Rick. Do you think it is your responsibility as the teacher to "catch" students that might be cheating in their online class?
Great points Jessica. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, there are several software products out there that can be used to detect when a student is plagiarizing. Hopefully you have access to one of them. How do you know if a student is doing their own work (for example posting on the discussion board) instead of having someone else do it for them? Does it matter? Thanks for sharing your ideas Lisa!
Because you don't "see" students completing their work in an online class, how can you be sure they aren't having someone else do the work for them? What can you do to prevent cheating from happening in your online class?
Very thorough and well thought out response Nancy. Setting the stage the first day of class is very important, including the expectations that make students aware that taking an online class isn't easier than the residential class.
Wow, four days is an intense class! Yes, the facebook suggestion is a good one. I hope it works well with your class.
That is a great piece of advice for your students Kalpana. Some students new to online learning struggle with the self discipline needed to be successful.
