About me

Activity

I find myself constantly rewording and rephrasing a thought or concept to make sure that the different types of learners are accommodated in my class. I use models, draw picture and give real-world examples to cover all learning styles.
We pair up the "older" students with the "new" students in lab to help better integrate the new students with classroom flow, where to find equipment, etc. and it works wonderfully.
We do a faculty intro in our department orientation in which each instructor introduces themselves and tells the new students a little about their qualifications, education, and hobbies.
Discussion Comment
I agree that late registration students deserve the same quality of orientation as the students that were able to make it in for the formal orientation.

I really like the orientation program suggestions provided in this course. Especially liked that they made light of the fact that orientation should be fun but not 'corny'!

This course was very informative and taught me a lot about how to teach students with disabilities; specifically dyslexic students. I look forward to using the "text in boxes" technique to help my dyslexic students by able to focus on exams.

I really enjoyed how the four teaching styles of the instructors were catagorized and explained. Very entertaining way of presenting the information, while also making it entertaining. Helps us be able to re-evaluate our own teaching style.
I especially liked the suggestion of putting instructions and questions in a box for dyslexic students in order to make it easier for them to focus. I will definitely be using that.
There was a lot of good information regarding how to help students whose primary language is something other than english.
Discussion groups have been a great way for me to break up the lecture time for my students. It makes lecture more exciting and gives them a minute to move around and get their blood flowing.
