Sitting down and having a safe and open conversation with a student can teach you a lot about what is going on.  I had a student tell me how her husband got shot and is paralized at home.  And I had NO idea  and it happened months ago.  It was such a eye opening conversation.  She was working full time and trying to take care of him and go to school full time. With two kids. I have many more stories from talking to students.

I was off a little bit so this made me look at things a little differently about highlighting syllabus and perhaps adding teamwork to each class.

I would motivate my students by doing things that they are interested in by obtaining a survey at the beginning of the semester to be sure that I know them well and use that knowledge for better engagement.

I enjoyed how it have methods to quiet the talkers and help get more participation from the "non" talkers by assigning observer roles. I also agree with my colleagues as the REFOCUS is so important to maintain the enthusiasm throughout the semester at time.  Sometimes we may just need time to give encouragement and support. I find those two factors correlate to student success. Based on my experience.

Learning students and adapting teaching methods is so difficulty. I believe that is why most people I see lecture.  I plan to make name cards for each student and work very hard to make sure I pronounce it well as I don't like when students change their name to make it easier for others to pronounce. I think that this talks about the level of caring by wanting to learn their names as quickly as possible.

Being aware of the content needing to be taught and use the best method to deliver it. For example, if I am teaching injections, the best way to teach is hands on demonstration and return demonstration with guidance and support.  If I am teaching about a specific medication, it may be good to have a visual presentation of the medication and what it would look like.

It would be nice to have a canvas area where we can  share different modalities we use to teach. Like ted talks, high fidelity patient simulators, etc.

Every student has a unique background and experience that can add richness to the classroom. It is important to learn all about student cultures, lifestyles, way of learning, and all around about them so you can make them a part of the learning.

Continuous feedback from students by observing their facial expressions and getting feedback on their understanding. Keep lecture to 10 minutes, break, do and interactive activity and back to lecture to keep students engaged in the subject.  Also holding myself to the same standards that I do my students.

I think looking professional and also making sure you are prepare and ready to learn with interactive learning and not just lecture.  Make the students think that you LOVE :) this content, even if it isn't your favorite.
