critical thinking activities
These activities are a great way to get student actively involved in learning the material. The more you get them to think outside the box about the material the better. It also allows them the opportunity to feel like they are part of the discussion.
Hi Andrea,
When students feel like they have a part/ownership, they tend to have more of an interest in the subject.

I have been trying to get students to 'think outside the box' in my classes. This have involved the use of current research articles that may or may not directly correlate to the leture material. This allows me to test, in a way, whether the students are really understanding the material or just memorizing it.
Hi Judy,
I have found that it is a challenge to get students to think outside of the box. I like to give my students problem solving scenarios and let them come up with a resolution to try to help them to learn how to think out of the box.

I introduce several models to my students. Then I ask them which, if any, their situation applies to and whether the model allows them to see an opportunity for resolution. This really spurs great classroom discussion.
