STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DISABILITY
Which lecture methods would be the most effective, passive or active?
Hi Michael,
I love the active method because it excites students more.

Active getting students up and involved is better that just triing to lecture. It is very hard to keep student awake if all you do is talk. They need to be involved ,up and moving being part of the lecture. not just sitting and listening.
Hi Jeff,
I agree! Students feel a sense of belonging when they are directly involved. Students love active learning, no one just wants to sit and listen to the instructor lecture all the time.

Active learning is by far the most effective. It not only is good for the students it is good for the teacher as well. It makes class time fun!
Hi ALYSON,
Active learing does make learning fun, and students look forward to being involved. Students retain more when they are actively involved.

Active learning is better, it involves students in a way that they may be able to retain information easily and at the same time gets them moving instead of sitting and listening to lecture.
Hi Angela,
I concur! Students love being active while learning. Active learing is very effective.

I have to agree with everyone that an active method of lecturing could be more effective. However, in the course that I teach, we are limited on time. I have tried to have the class be more involved in the lecture, both groups and volunteer interaction, but the information didn't seem to be understood any better. Additionally, it put us behind schedule. My conclusion from this has been that not all courses/classes are created equal; some just work best with passive lecture. At least I can say I tried!
Hi Manuel,
I agree! You really have to do what works best for a particular course and the students. Some courses are just more lecture based. You may want to try using PowerPoints and guided notes to help add some flavor to your lectures.
