Critical Thinking as Active Learning

Critical thinking is a self-directed phenomenon through which the human intellect is awakened. It constitutes a connection between ontology and epistemology. It engages in effective communication and problem solving. Critical thinking consists of brainstorming, analyzing, and prioritizing. the critical thinker is one who utilizes inductive and deductive forms of cognitive thinking in order to achieve solutions that resolve practical and theoretical problems within scholarship and other aspects of human life.

I also feel that critical thinking is being able to react to situations quickly and deduce a alternate plan.

Hi Kelvin,
I concur! One must be able to think out of the box and come up with a Plan B and C.

When I think about critical thinking, I realize that the development of critical thinking has been a focus of educators at various level of education for a long time. For example, the person evaluating, analyzing, and interpreting information as part of the critical thinking process, also analyzes inferences and assumptions made regarding that information, which demonstrates involvement in the critical thinking process. These cognitive skills are used to form judgment/decision and reflective thinking that consists of turning a subject over in one's mind and giving it serious and persistant consideration. Therefore, it can be used to evaluate the quality of decisions made. The direct involvement in the critical thinking process sets the stage and fuel active learning.
