Once students have a direction to go in, they can focus on the expectations in place.
The first Impressions can be somewhat deceiving. For instance I was recently told that I have a tendency to come off a little strong on the first day with laying out the ground rules. Although some students like the structure others were out off by it. I have since adjusted and am trying to tone it down
The first impression you make on a class sets the tone for the entire course. The first hour or so of a new class is the most important time.
I agree with you guys. Alot of the problems we have to deal with are self induced. If the students are clear in the understanding that you have control of your class, it will save you alot of trouble throughout your course.
good call john, once the objectives and expectations are put out there for the students they have a goal to achieve and a set standard to live up to.
