Learning styles
In class I try to vary the material presentation as often as possible to accomodate all the learning styles by using some powerpoint, class hand outs and in class lab demos.
I find lab demonstrations, conducted after theory presentation, works best to make students understand.
I used to lean on powerpoint when I first started to teach, but after a while I got bored with reading it. Now I spend more time drawing on the white board, passing around training aid, and moving around the room. I use the powerpoint as a guide, so I don't get too far off track. Sometimes when I need to stress something in the powerpoint, I call on a student to read it.....sometimes I call on more than one and have them repeat it. They get a powerpoint handout, hands on demos and practice so the course content delivery really covers all of the bases. I truly think that if we present the information to all learners with all different styles, it really helps to creat a productive learning environment.
Wow James - you run a dynamic classroom!
I also do the same. I use training aids, ask questions during power point, write on white board and use short videos when I have them for the topic.
