visual learning
I use instrument identification games with my students
I give my students who are visual learners different ways to study by adding color to their material. One method is to take notes in different colors. Another method is to have at least three different color highliters - one (like yellow) is to be used when you pre-read for homework, the second color (like blue) is to be used during class to highlite the material the instructor lectures on, and the last color (like pink) for the information on the test. This way the student can start to get a sense of what the instructor thinks is important. And at the same time if they were to highlite in just one color (for all three things) they can be focusing on the wrong things. Students tell this truly helps them in their visual learning.
Hi Laura - as a visual learner myself, I really liked the ideas that you shared in our post - Thanks!! Susan
Laura, I like this approach and never thought of breaking it do like that. I am kinesthetic and visual and use these techniques in teaching software skills to students. For the tutorials I always as them to read the tutorial, highlight the most important items in the steps and then we do the tutorials, sometimes together and other times individually while I watch their progress.
That is a pretty cool idea. I especially like its use to get a sense of how the thinks. This is a great tool for students that like to use highliters, but use they with no purpose.
