Questioning can come from both sides, students and instructor?
Hi Karen - Thanks for sharing some excellent advice on questioning! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I frequently use questioning as a learning technique in lectures.
It is so important to be comfortable with no responses and WAIT for students to answer.
Often, we don't readily get a response. . .so we answer our own questions and move on. . .and students KNOW this.
Focus on encouraging responses rather than time it takes for responses.

I agree. I think if we as instructors ask questions of our students than they will feel more comfortable with asking their own questions. I have learned alot over the years from my students. They have alot of experience to bring to the course.
I agree. Always admit when you do not know something. Demonstrate we are human and we too can learn new information.
I admit when I don't know the answer and have used the internet to find it..In a ground class if you have a computer this technique will also keep the students engaged in learning and you can search for the answer together.
If we dont ask qusetions we cannot open closed doors in there minds and get them to activeate there thought processes.
I also encourage my students to ask questions, you can learn alot from someone just by asking a simple question. I never hesitate to go and ask for help with a question I can not answer.
