QUESTION IN THE CLASSROOM
I take the question and answer time in class to help me identify the strength and weakness within the student or students. Helps me prepare a lecture for the next day.
Hi Ina - Yes, that's the real purpose of questioning - to be able to adjust our teaching to meet the needs of our students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
I ask questions that require the students to use new information and old information to answer. This ties the class sessions together.
I do believe that some of the questions are a mirror as to how my teaching style is coming across to the students.
I like to use the questions to see how the topic has been transferred to the students, but I also use the questions to ignite the curiosity and develop research skills. A question will lead to multiple opinions and theories. This by gravity force the student to use multiple resources (internet databases, books, research papers, …. ) in order to find support for the correct answer(s). To do this I need to make sure that the students have the tools that they need in order to keep the flow of the class. Sometimes I use a question to initiate the topic for the next class.
yes, I too use that time to evaluate my style. It also gives me a broader insight of my students and what they are retaining
You can find out if any of the students have real life experiences and have them help answer questions also.
