Daily Oral Quizzes
I give students a 5-point quiz based on material covered on the previous day or assigned reading at the beginning of each class. This serves to:
1. evaluate understanding to date
2. keep students up-to-date on reading assignments
3. reinforce learning for summative evaluation
4. discourage tardiness!
Hi Rhonda - I also use a short quiz at the start of almost every class. It gives me an idea of what we need to review before going on and also reduces the # of students who arrive late as they miss the quiz. Susan
That sounds really good. I think that frequent small tests keep the students focused on what they are supposed to learn. It is more work for the teacher because of the grading.
I have used this in some of my classes. It recaps what was learned and makes sure that deficiencies are addressed before we move on.
oral quizes seem to initiciate relavant discussions among my students on a subject which otherwise would have not crossed their mind again (except studying for an exam)
I have also used this method and it is very effective in causing the students to be alert and on top of the game from the beginning of class. It is then up to me to maintain this momentum with good questions and discussions.
I give my students a small test at the end of each day. I go over it with them and we discuss what we did. I feel it motivates them and they always seem to feel as if they accomplished and know what they are doing.
