review test after administrating test.

I have found by reveiwing the tests after the students have taken the test with the answers for the question, the retain that data.

Post review can be benifical.

I agree. I like the post-test review as well. The students have usually discussed the answers amongst themselves before I hand out the corrected tests and I find that the more out-going ones tend to get more from a group review, while the shyer ones like an individual one.

I always review the test with my students after they have been graded. If thier was a question that a student had a hard time making sense of, we can cover it and make sure that everyone is on the same page.

My school uses short 10 question exams the day after the subject lecture. I collect the exams and put them away without grading or wasting any more time and immediately review the exam just taken. I review each question, expand on both the correct answer and the explanation of the incorrect answers. I can spend as much as 1 hour sometimes on the exam review and on the explanations of correct and incorrect answers. I use this time not only to reinforce the prior lecture and try to incorporate as much of the entire course material as possible to reinforce the entire course.

Hi Louis - after major exams do you ever go back and review the short tests taken by any students that may have done poorly on the major test?

I do a lot of evaluations. On my short tests I look for commonly incorrect answers and make sure I adjust my lesson plan accordingly. I do review my major exams but not in the format you have mentioned - it is something to look into - thanks.

I agree. The review after the test can also support the coarse. The students who get an answer wrong will never forget it after .

In reviewing, when the students take turns in stating the question plus the correct answwer, they must justify the response they have chosen; this gives the rest of the class an understanding both of the answer and the reasoning behind it.

Hi Patricia- Having your students give the reasoning behind their answers is a great idea. It clears up questions with the students who did not know the answer and also reinforces it in all the student' minds. Well done!

I agree with you that reviewing the test after they have been graded is very important. The students are able to figure out what grade they received and they have an opportunity to understand why a question that they missed was wrong. I have also noticed that shy students speak up more at this time on questions/topics that they did not understand.

Reviewing after test administration and scoring is a tool I use for reinforcement of learning. I also give students an opportunity to increase their test score by completing additional work and/or corrections on certain quizzes.
