Selecting Testing Format
I learned a lot about selecting a testing format during this session. I test my students everyday and see what they retain. The slower students would leave their test blank frequently.
Hi Felicia,
I'm glad that you found ED 103 useful! Best wishes - Susan

The Testing Format was a very interest session. However, because of my position I will not be able to use this skill.
I've also found students who leave my short-answer exam questions blank. This is actually a better way to learn what students are not learning compared to a "multiple guess" exam.
One odd problem I've had related to this is that when I ask for longer-form responses like an essay about a piece of reading or historical event, students crib from online sources. I've thought about using the old blue books, but I don't enjoy trying to read bad handwriting, so I've simply stopped asking for five-paragraph essays and used long-paragraph responses, which has worked for me.
I will usually use multiple formats for testing. it is very common for me to have multiple choice, matching, short answer, and completion on the same exam.
Hi Shannon, Thanks for your post to the forum. You are using a great mix of assessment types! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Selecting a testing format changes with different students, even when I am teaching the exact same content.
I agree, I have found that student's do better on some type of tests then others, for this reason I use a variety of test in my class. I use all that were mentioned in the course, this helps me to know what each student has really learned and whether I need to change things up any for this class
When a student leaves a test question blank, I often have them come up to my desk and complete the exam. Surprisingly, they often answer correctly. Many times they know the answer, but lack confidence. Getting it wright is a boost for them.
