Morning versus Evening classes

Music can be a great way to energize sleepy students when entering the classroom first thing in the morning. An energizing music can also make a significant impact on students who are coming to class following a day at work. The music can help both groups (morning and evening) separate from their personal thoughts and focus on class tasks. The idea of using music before reviewing the class agenda will help draw people to the room on time...rather than lingering in the student lounge.

I agree with you about music being an energizer for sleepy students. I'm definitely going to start using more music and color in my teaching; it could definitely be beneficial with our 6-10pm students!

Music is great and I don't own a laptop or MP3 player-

I let my students have computer lab time. I can't rearrange the computers, but I wonder if having music would help keep them focused on their work?

I am definitely going to try this method for time when the students come back from lunch. They tend to be a little sleepier. Normally the night students are coming from work. I am going to try this starting next week. I am excited about implementing this concept.

Music is nice to have while the students are arriving and getting ready for the lecture. I feel that up beat music gives an upbeat energy for the lecture ahead.

Music in class sounds like a great idea, think I will give it a try!

Hey,

What about us sleepy instructors who really dislike the evening schedule, especially whan it lasts 12 long weeks. Music usage can certainly help us keep focused just as much as the students during those long nights. I will continue to use music for these benefits.
