visual demos
As a culinary instructor, a cooking demo is a visual for the students. It is necessary for culinary students to see how the product is made and to taste it in order to perform and gasp the concept.
I agree with you statement. One of the subject I teach is minimal drum mic'ing and without actually giving a hands on lesson to the students the class would be very lackluster.
I teach hospital pharmacy and always show a visual demo before I have the students start the hands on training for the class. I find that the students ask more questions when they see me doing the demo first.
Michelle,
I agree with you that these kinds of demonstrations really help open the students' minds up for the instruction & practice to follow.

Even though I teach English and not something like cooking, I can still give a "demo" on how to write an essay which is very effective.
Rachel,
great point! Too often we think demos only apply to the hands-on disciplines, but we can demo anything & make it interesting.

I agree in Cosmetology student need visual demo are necessary for the students
I agree, visual demos coupled with hands on learning provides the students with the confidence to approach tasks when working individually. I teqach cosmetology and many times during demos I have the students assist with the service so that they will have a working understanding of what is occuring during the service.
Much like cooking, math is not a spectator sport. I found that using a lead-in story on how a particular method of solving a math problem is used in the medical profession. Then, I assign a word problem (or two) as homework to enforce the lecture and learning objective.
