Developing your communication skills
I think students appreciate an instructor that
projects enthusiasm in the class room by using their voice to do it. I also use a seating chart so that I can get to know my students by name early. This is my way of communicating to them that I know who they are therefore their attention is required. These skills plus the use of eye contact helps keep the student attentive.
My students have told me that they know when I enjoy the topic I am teaching because I get talking fast and they have to ask me to slow down...lol. But, when the students can see that I enjoy the topic they are more involved and normally remember the information better.
It is very important to teach the topic with enthusiasm. This enthusiasm will certainly transmit to the students. Learning does not take place without enthusiasm. Enthusiasm makes the student go deeper in problem solving/learning process.
Achla,
you are right. No matter how much we know about the topic, the more enthusiastic we are the better the students will be engaged.
