Get Your Students Hired
One way I used to handle a disruptive student is to have him or her submit a short paper on a relevant topic. I then will ask questions on it.
When a student is disrupting during class by talking or shuffling through their notebook, I will walk and stand next them. This way all eyes are on me and the student, eventually the student realize they need to pay attention.
