Eye contact
Eye contact is very important and powerful in order to get the student attention.
This is true,because it lets the student know that they are integrel part of the class.
I enjoy eye contact, it lets me know who understands what i am saying, because when you give eye contact you can tell in their body language if they don't understand.
I always try to create that intimate setting with my students. Eye contact is an essential part of it.

I agree that eye contact is so important. Sometimes a student feels they have done something wrong or have dissapointed the instructor and just the eye contact can tell them that everything is just fine.

What is the ideal way to help a student who is very uncomfortable with eye contact?

good question. The big answer would be to handle very carefully & to ease them into this. I would also consider if we are dealing with cultural differences as some cultures discourage that direct eye contact that we encourage in the U.S.
