Diverse learners

Teaching in an urban environment allows instructors interaction with a wide variety of cultures and language. Useful in open discussions in the classroom.

Hey, Don. I know what you're saying: working as we do in one of the largest cities in the country, at a school that draws students in from farm towns two hours away, from expensive suburbs, from depressed inner-city neighborhood, we have a particularly interesting cross-section of students; this can make for particularly lively discussions, truly enlightening exchanges of insight between people with wildly divergent worldviews, and myriad teachable moments.

While this student populace may have many differences, they do all have one thing in common: a thirst for knowledge and a desire to better themselves and their positions in society through the careful study and disciplined practice of visual communications. In theory.

The school where I teach is also very diverse. I teach accounting, so language and diversity issues become huge stumbling blocks. To be successful in accounting, you must have a solid grasp on the fundamental principles. As an instructor, I must ensure that my students understand those concepts. Also, it can be fatal for the class to fall behind, so this must be watched carefully.

Many of my students with English as a second language are more motivated and hard working. They bring new ideas to the table.

Diverse learners - Careful observation of some student with behavioral problems relates to learning problems, early detection can often place the student back on their learning tract.

Their behavorial problems is sometimes caused by frustration, low grades due to lack in reading/writing/comprehension of concepts and material - observations made from giving homework/reading/writing assignments.

These students find it difficult to ask for help and need additional tuition/instructional support.

Teaching in trade schools or college you will have a wide variety cultures and language as your students will come from all over the country. This has helped me in my teaching with the wide range toughts and learning back roundsthe will bring to your school.
