we can do that.
We can show them that we can do it.
I've heard the term " I'm good enough if your smart enough." Some of our students are smart enough but they require help in the understanding of simple ideas.
I try not to focus on the word smart and instead remind the student that it is about developing understanding over time.
You are exactly right Adel! It is about critical thinking skills and life-long learning!

I agree. I try to convey to my students that this is a life long learning throughout school and your choosen profession.
I think students are apt to get discouraged when they are having difficuly; reinforcing that they can do it and they have the potential helps them keep their self-confidence so they can succeed.
Hi Stu
I love the "we can do that" attitude in instructing. It says to the student I am your alli_ _ _ here to help you with any obstacle that you may encounter _ _ _ be secure, "for I have succored thee".
I also agree. Sometimes it's the smallest bit of encouragement that can make a huge difference.
Absolutely Michelle!
For those students who haven't had support by friends and family or have a low self-esteem, it really is about building them up and helping them to see that they are - indeed - capable.
Keep up the good work!
