Carenda,

Not a problem. Glad I could help.

Angela,

Very good points. I will suggest that you check out the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. Not a great deal of difference but somewhat.

Diane,

Excellent points. Getting students to provide constructive evaluation of themselves and their fellow students is difficult. They seem to only want to give feedback on what was done well.

Dr. Moody Crews

It allows them practical use of the knowledge. In traditional settings where students are required to read before class and then participate in lecture and class discussion, the motivation to participate can be low. However, knowing that to actually get the interactive phase of learning is dependent on them doing the work at home, if anticipate better participation.

Erica,

All true and following Bloom's will allow for deeper learning and higher level skill obtainment.

The flipped classroom helps the students reach higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy by helping the students understand what they are working toward in a course and to assess weather weather they are learning the course content.

Teaching nutrition to culinary students without hnds on is difficult as they are visual tactile learniers. The video aproach gives them the visual, allowing them to reach higher levels of critical thinking becuas it plays to their strengths

The flipped classroom helps student acheve higher levels of learning by applying critical thinking to the corse.Hands on learning, evaluating and analyzing problems and solving them.

I have witnessed differences in the level of confidence my students have in their handling of the course materials and I have been surprised at the depth of thought they use when evaluating their own or others' photographs and essay responses. By expressing their thoughts so publicly and having their own ideas evaluated by peers has encouraged them to think before they speak and expect to have to defend their statements.

I have set up the essays questions according to Bloom's Taxonomy and as the course reaches the end, I explain why the quizzes changed in approach each week. After experiencing the course, students seem to be even more interested in how they learned the material and are excited about their own progress.

The flipped classroom helps students reach higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy by providing students with the opportunity to internalize the information as knowledge is applied to problems and situations. The application of knowledge practiced with in-class assignments can then be used on the job in actual situations. Students who learn to be good team members in class will also be effective cooperative and collaborative team members at work.

BRUCE,

The goal of Bloom's Taxonomy is to help the students reach a higher level of learning.

Laura ,

As was discussed earlier, teaching to different learning styles is something that many instructors forget.

Dr. Moody Crews

Diana,

Wow, your class sounds awesome. I like your statement "encouraged them to think before they speak". We could all probably use a lesson in that.

Dr. Moody Crews

Christine,

I agree - critical thinking skills and teamwork are what companies want in their employees.

By using the levels the students can comprehend, apply and evaluate their knowledge

The flipped classroom helps students to develop more effective problem solving and critical thinking skills, which are evident at higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy. The students are required by the layout of the course to take a more active role in learning. Viewing recorded lectures, as opposed to hearing live lectures, gives the students a better opportunity to digest the information and to spend more time taking notes, resulting in better comprehension. Focusing on the practice of developing skills in the classroom highlights applying what you know in a team environment allowing more time for discussion with peers and the instructor. This ultimately will result in a better grasp of the material and a deeper understanding.

My thoughts exactly. Higher levels of thinking, and learning gives them the ability to feel comfortable and knowledgeable which equals confidence in implementing those concepts and skills.

They get to learn at a higher level. When you impart Knowledge, comprehension and application in class synthesis and evaluation is bound to occur.

Students are able to access the pre-recorded lecture material 24/7, this I believe allows the student learn at a pace comfortable for them...then the classroom activities help the students process the information at a higher level of Bloom's Taxonomy.. For example, it was mentioned in the reading that students can sometimes get "stuck" when doing homework on their own at home, and learning sometimes stops at that point. If the student "homework" is actually being done in the classroom then the levels of Bloom's learning are more likely to be achieved.

The flipped classroom helps students reach higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy by providing students with the opportunity to utilize and experiment with the knowledge as they begin to develope there powers of obsrvation. Lessen the fear of mistakes because the students can review many times the material. When mistakes are made they can be easily corrected. They gain insight and the ability to express their opinions that are peer reviewed, this allows the student to grow and accept critic of their work as a part of the learning process. In addition it provides a leraning environment that it is easier to meet the nedds of students that are having a challenge to understanding the course material.
