Remember?
Try to remember what it was like when you were a student.
Try to keep im mind all of the speed bumps that you encountered as a student. And also how overwhelming things can get with a compounded schudule.
I do remember when I was a student, but this is a hard task because I was a good student, like many of the people posting on this discussion board. I turned in all of my assignments on-time, never missed a class and frankly, worked my tail end off. This is why as an instructor, I get so frustrated seeing students who have the ability and brain power be so non-involved and nonchalant about their own education. Don't get me wrong, many of my students work very hard, but the few that don't really upset me at times!
I was a fairly good student throughout high school and college; not what I would call outstanding, but I was able to accomplish my goals. As an instructor, I find it helpful to reflect on my own experiences as a student to have a better understanding of my students. It is easier to be empathetic towards students' needs while at the same time be fair and consistent as I instruct and motivate them toward their career goals.
