Immediacy

At times I findd myself suffering from the need to do things now. In the past I never wanted things to wait until later because I believed it said something about the work that I did for the day. However, by working in a career college setting I have come to understand that it is better to priortize than to want to do things now. I try to do list and sometimes they work and sometimes they don't; however, I am getting better at time management and reducing stress. Is there anyone that finds a to do list hard to keep up with or modify as needed?

Great question Dionne! I think some people find this hard because they can’t figure out the best frequency to update their list. I think the ideal frequency of to do list updates depends on the types of tasks listed. If you have several small tasks that can be completed within a few hours, then it can be nice to refresh your list often. However, if you have fewer, longer tasks, then it may not make sense to update as often and you might feel less inclined to do so.

I am very much an immediacy person. I like everything (...as much as possible) to be done by the end of the day so I can start each day fresh.
I find that many students have immediacy issues also and can become very demanding. They want immediate feedback, immediate scores on exams, and immediate attention. This puts added stress on instructors.
Because of this, I often wait until the following morning to post grades or return their emails.
When I was in college, we sometimes waited a week before we received exam grades. In real life, we rarely get instant results or instant gratification.

Great points Dee! And yes, the game has certainly changed in education today. Media like mobile devices and technology like the internet have shown our students ways to connect faster than ever before. These technologies have set their expectations, not just with respect to interacting with technologies but also with respect to interacting with other people.

it's not often i feel rushed. i demand a pace that stresses thought and quality of materials presented.
