Creating to do lists.
I have started creating a to do list not just to prioritize but to also help me remember what I need to complete in a specific day. Students will constantly stop in to say hello or to ask for help during prep time and tend to loose my train of thought.
I too believe that creating a to do list will help me organize my week. This is a valuable tool.
It is nice to hear that you have a good relationship with your students and that they like to communicate with you. But I understand how this could also get in the way when it comes to getting things done.
It help you feel a sense of accomplishment too when you are a visual communicator like myself.
I am also going to make a to do list not so much for priority but just to make a list of things i need to get done . Some times it seems like we end up with a large list that is hard to keep track of.
This is a good point Ron. Sometimes to do lists are so long that they seem daunting. Organizing tasks into categories on your list is one way to make longer lists more helpful.
I completely understand how this happens. My to-do lists are pretty extensive and I have many sub-categories under each item. I try to check them off as I go through my day/week despite all of the interruptions. I feel this helps me to keep myself on track when I might get sidetracked.
Yes, having sub-categories is a nice touch. Helps you feel just a bit more organized - especially when to do lists have so many items.
I have very casual to do lists. I write down what I want to do which day in my calendar. It helps me keep a little more organized.
I tape a "To Do List" on my bathroom mirror every
night, and review it shaving in the morning.
I only put 3 or 4 things on it, and I try to do
them come "hell or high water".
