goal for the class

I find that when i write things down on the white board, it helps the class accomplish their activities.

Interesting approach Cecilia! I have also experienced the benefits of writing objectives down for all to see. Note that distributing objectives doesn't just have to happen on a white board. We can use on-paper summaries or even email to set expectations about our goals.

I have found that the white board works best for my students. Most of the time when I send messages to my classes via email the majority of the class fails to read it.

Interesting observation Andrew! It's a challenge when our students have a hard time tuning into important information. Sometimes, setting expectations about the kinds of communications they will receive early helps throughout the semester.

I have had the same experience. Students respond well to info that is on the white board. I usually suggest that they transfer this info to their syllabus.

Jennifer, Interesting to hear. While it's tempting to make print outs for students, sometimes having them hand transfer the information can be nice. It can be a good way of helping the students internalize what they see. This can put them in a better position to remember it in the future.
