Task Prioritizing

This has been something I have struggled with. I can list the things that need to be done, then I find myself just completing the list in the order I have written.

Tom, Interesting challenge. It sounds like you might benefit from developing a highlighting system that allows you to identify the highest priority tasks. This way, you could hone in on the highest priority ones.

or take into consideration the time and effort that will go into the finishing of one task. I always try to find a balance between simpler, less time consuming tasks and the immediacy of more difficult tasks. So as not to find myself only focused and or worried about the biggest task at hand. I find that its less stressful to knock out some easy tasks first to instill some sense of progress or completion before or during a large task. You feel like you have gotten more accomplished and have more time for the larger tasks. It also helps to break down the time you focus on one task so that you do not get overwhelmed.

Tom,
I have been working to get more organized for years. What has helped me tremendously is an old-fashioned paper planner. This way i can write out my to-do list in light of my goals for the week. Then I am able to prioritize and know exactly what comes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

I have started making a list and I have found that making list caused me stress until I learned to USE the list and not be used by the list

Brian, Interesting perspective. I agree that sometimes when we see all our tasks on paper, it can be a little intimidating. At the same time, it's best to have a holistic view of everything we are working on. It can give us a reason to delegate or even push back on tasks if we have to.

I liked the tip to consider the consequences of not doing the task! This idea has some teeth behind it!

Roberta, Yes, it becomes really easy to prioritize tasks when you consider the consequences of not doing them. Puts a lot into perspective.
