P/L Stress

The need to maximize profits by reducing labor cost is a huge cause of stress for me in the workplace. Labor is the largest controlable expense on our P/L statement and efforts to reduce it have, in my opinion, gone too far. We are not allowed to work off site because we are classified as hourly employees. Our management continues to increase our job responsibilities while decreasing the amount of time we have to get it done. The effect is an exponential loss of time. And ultimately either takes time away from teaching or leaves things undone.

I agree with you completely, it also makes it hard to create a "to do" list due to the fact that tasks go undone and continually back up. The stress that comes from this conflict also travels home with me due to the fact that I try to figure out how and when i amgoing to get everything comleted. This in return causes stress at home.

It's easy to fall behind when you're balancing so many tasks at work and at home. Sometimes it's best to just take a step back and refocus on your priorities.

With the current economic situation, the labor reduction has been an added stress to the overall labor market. Reduced labor force, added responsibilities has caused additional stress.

it does seem to cause a lot of stress when we feel that we need more time to finish the tasks asked of us, the stress level would be decreased if we are alloweed to complete some of the tasks at home like keeping up with our own technical training (a lot of it can be done online at home, but since we are hourly.we are not allowed ( some bad apples runied it for us)I personaly find the on line technical training to be relaxing to do.

David,
I understand what you are saying.... I have listened to many people and have come to realize that deligation is the means by which "some" tasks can be completed. One of the many things I do for each week is review what needs to be done and deligate it out... then I have time to use the P/L to your benefit.

Delegating would be a good way to get some tasks done, but when you're low man on the totem pole, there isn't anyone to delegate to.
