Ithink that my next plan for stress management is a good workout routine. I always talk about it and never can make time, its time!

I agree with the sleep/rest idea. Too many times bedtime is moved aside to complete some minor project cutting down on my resting time. I need to be more strict about my schedule. Breathing exercises were taught to me several years ago. I use them when needed to cope with stress. They can work wonders in relaxation.

I Like to do yoga to relieve stress. I also find that the old saying - a problem shared is a problem halved - to be very true.

I will plan on tsking more breaks during the day and be more rigorous when it comes to exercise.

Madeline I love your endorsement of quick naps! When I take my lunch break I go to my car, set my alarm for 30 minutes and enjoy a quick nap. After the nap I feel very refreshed. I wish naps were manadatory!

I believe that daily meditation is a great way to cope with stress. Before going to work I read a book with helpful daily thoughts. During the day when I feel stress approaching I take some deep breaths and remember the daily thought. I find leaving the building at lunch also reduces stress.

Jennifer, It's nice to hear that you have found an outlet that you can take on the road with you. It's nice to be able to have a method that we can use to cope anywhere. Note that I understand you are trying not to disturb your coworkers. That sounds like a respectful approach. However, another approach is to invite them to join you. This can, in some circumstances, work too!

Donald, Sounds like you have a great process in place and one that you can count on. Great work! I also like your point about letting things simmer and I think that couldn't be more true.

Coping with stress is best reduced by, first prioritizing each event, come up with ways to resolve the event, then attacking each event one at a time. I find one bite at a time works great, and gives some, what seems to be high stress items, to become lower in the list after the simmer a while.

Donald, Yes, this approach works great. It's so important to take a step back sometimes. We are often so much better for it when we return.

I have already started to use stretching and breathing at the office. They are something I can do at my desk without disturbing my co-workers. The first couple of times I tried the stretching I was pleasantly surprised at how much better I felt almost right away. I didn’t realize it was a coping mechanism until I took this class.

I should exersize more, atleast 5 days aweek instead of 3 days a week. I have already changed my diet and the things I eat. I also have stopped trying to change the things I can't change.

i agree getting more sleep/rest will help me tremendiously because when i am tired i feel more stressed

I feel that getting back into a regiment of diet and excercise is in the near future to help deal with the stress of the job.

I agree. Set the stress asside, change mind set to something outside the class topic, for a short time, then get back on track works great.

Healthy coping mechanisms allow us deal with daily stressful situations which we are unable to reduce or eliminate. During each class session, the students receive a 10 or 20 minute break. The 20 minute, or long break comes halfway through the class, while the 10 minute breaks occur each hour. On each 10 minute break, I will go outside where most others are smoking and walk once around the building perimeter. During the single 20 minute break I will go outside and walk 2X around the building perimeter. This will leave me refreshed and awake for the balance of the class.

Robert, Sounds like a great plan. It's best to distribute your coping mechanisms throughout the week instead of clustering them around just the weekend.

Most of my stresses are associated with Missouri College, which I take home with me at times.I cope by accepting that there is a difference between private practice and accademia.Coversations with my partner and my wife has helped to understand and accept this fact.

I go to the gym and like to clean but found that with working so much, cleaning became a stessor because I simply did not have the time to do it. To fix this, I hired a housekeeper to come in every other week and now my house is always clean and it is much easier for me to keep it clean. It was a HUGE amount of stress taken off my shoulders and it is not that much money!

Trying to get more sleep ,start running more during the week and not wait to the weekend.
