Late homework
Students should have points taken off if they are late
assignments turned in late should be marked as such. They do not replicate the deadline critereia of the real working world
I deduct points for homework late if there is no documentation on why it is late, i.e. doctor's note, traffic accident, etc. You must prepare students in career education to real job situations and hold them accountable
If my students don,t bring in documentatyion i will not except it at all. What i'm trying to do is teach them responsibility because in the work field their not trying except anything that is not late they want it on time.
I also believe that teaching responsibility is important to the students. Unfortunately, it needs to come from home. Too many of our students don’t understand the importance of responsibility because they were never taught responsibility.
I think the wake-up call is the first time that a student turns something in late or not at all. Then they realize that “maybe I need to get myself together”. It only gets better from there!
Hi Lucille,
I agree! Responsibility does begin at home, however, some of our students do not have a sense of responsibility, and we must do all that we can to help make them responsible. We are not doing our students any favors by being lenient on them about late homework. There are deadlines in the workplace that must be adhered to.

I agree 100% I woild not hire somebody that does not understand deadlines. The real worl is about deadlines and if we are linient in class they will never be prepared for what's out there. Student need to understand reasponsibilities and consequences
I agree that points should be deducted for late work. Those who submit work on time should be given the opportunity to receive full points--and those who miss deadlines should never get the same possible score.
What I find frustrating with this policy involves teaching online. When one lesson builds upon another lesson, late work dramatically hinders a student's ability to succeed. Unfortunately, this also can cause them frustration--and they are more likely to give up. I find myself sending numerous messages to my students to help motivate them to catch up if they fall behind--so definitely see the need to a delicate balance.
