Syllabus
A good and organized syllabus can save a lot of time for students and instructor.
I agree the good syllabi is a life saver.
But I also suggest that a hard copy should be handed out to students in the first class and get it signed by them. Instructor and Students do need an agreement on that, just like a business contract.

We have now adopted a standardized syllabi for all courses. We don't have a choice of how it is set up and what is in it. The ISOLs must be accounted for and now we need to associate them with our student learning outcomes. Prior to that I believe all programs had their own way of presenting the information. I think it is a good thing to have a more standardized version so that between the different campuses there is still commonality. Kerry

We have had standardized syllabi as long as I have been teaching at my institution for nearly 23 years. Structure causes the educational process to run smoothly.

A syllabus is a saving grace. Students need a syllabus so that they know exactly what is expected of them.

I believe it is very important as well. Thinking about my years as a student, this would help me stay organized and it made sense when combined with the class calendar/schedule. It was easier to focus on all other tasks.
