Real World Experiance

I try to give as many examples as I can from my experiance in the field as it pertains to current topics in the class. I find my students are able to understand why they have to truly understand and learn all course content that way. Not just what they think they need to know.

Hi Michael,
Students have a better appreciation for the course once they fully understand the benefit of the course.

I agree Michael, as adult learners we need to know the WHY factor!

I strongly agree we must use real world experiances, I like to include them in my lectures

Hi Maria,
Why is important to understand so that a sense of clarity is provided!

Hi Laurel,
Real-world experiences make lectures much more exciting!

Patricia Scales

I agree Michael, I too like to give real-world examples to my students all the time. To give them what to expect and how to handle situations in the work environment. I also ask questions on how would they handle important issues at that moment.

Real world experience is vital to a clinician's education because in the classroom and lab settings, practicing on well bodied people is completely different that in a clincial setting with real patients. We can only simulate so much...

I also try to utilize the "real world experience" concept for my students. This actively involves my older students, and helps the students who have never held a job in their field know what to expect when the enter the workforce.

Hi Brenda,
Students enjoy having real-world examples so that they know how it is in the real world.

Hi Jeanie,
I concur! Practicing is one thing, but performing in a real setting is totally different. Students need the exposure of the real world.

Patricia Scales

yes they do, sometimes i think as important the material is, the real world view into the world they've chosen is just as important.

Hi William,
We need to let our students know exactly how things are in the real world. Students will be held at very high standards in the real world.

I have learned that just teaching the student how to
just pass the test and get there license is not enough to prepare them for whats ahead.
We as instructors who have already been where they are going when they leave us we need to explain to them how it is and the mistakes we and they can make
so hopefully in the real world they can avoid the mistakes we made.

Hi Edward,
I concur! We must do our due diligence to teach our students how to keep the job as well. We have to focus on all levels to help our students become successful and stay successful.

When I am able to drive a point using first hand experience from the industry makes lecture the most fun. It seems the funnier or more repulsive the better. Students enjoy the stories and they seem to galvanize learning objectives.

Hi Christopher,
Students love to and want to hear real-world stories as they apply to the course content.
