Many different faces of a student
Upon reading this passage, I have certainly run into many of these student traits and have found myself not only reflecting, but, attending other teachers classes to gain insights and their teaching techniques. I realized that one size does not fit all when you are teaching. Excellent examples and ones to incorporate.
This is tough. What I have learned is that there are different faces. You have to get to know your students, learn their behavior, get them engaged. From getting to know them I am invited or given permission by them to get them engaged. Some faces say, I'm scared, I'm not a good reader, I've got some things going on that I need help with, I don't know anyone, I want to help others but I don't know how not to come across as a know it all. Learning has many faces and you have to be willing to read them. Once you read them you have to keep reading them, continue to engage them, act like you know that face and mean it. This challenges the student, gives them permission to talk to you and come to you for guidance. I always say, it's okay to be afraid but it's not okay to stay afraid. How can I help you?
