Illiterate Student

How does an instructor deal with an illiterate student? Many times in the college environment adjunct instructors are hired teach adult learners; but sometimes illiterate students are in their classroom, and instructors do not know how to deal with this type of learner. Illiterate students are a special case, as many times college instructors are not equipped to teach this type of student because they have not had the training to teach this student. How does an instructor teach this type of challenging student?

Assign easy books to read for daily homework
and advise them to take a reading class, and if your institute has counseling reffer them to that as well

When teaching courses related to medical criteria, it is difficult to move the illiterate student forward. The work place expectations generally are not adjustable to this degree, and errors can be exceedingly costly. In the current environment, physicians and hospitals are subject to significant fines when errors are identified by claims processors and other entities. The illiterate student would probably be better served to steer him/her to another course track.
