Dealing with a loud student
Any tips on dealing with a loud student?
Hi Daniel,
Have a firm conversation ASAP with the loud student. Let them know that the loudness must stop or you will have them removed from the class.

Loud doesn't necessarily mean they don't have something constructive to contribute to class. If they have comments relate it to the topic and bring others into the discussion so that the loud student realizes you are not the only one in the class and everyone's opinion needs to be heard and respected.
Hi Shani,
Loud doesn't have to be a bad thing. The loud student just needs to be controlled.
Patricia
Hi,
I would agree that loud does not necessarily mean the student is a problem, only the volume is. If the student can contribute in a positive way to the class then the student could perhaps be unaware that they are loud and need to take it down a level.
More than likely this has been an issue throughout their learning experience and the instructor needs to control the student by acknowledging that their voice is loud.

Have a meeting with the student and discuss the options the student has in terms of your class and the behavior you expect from him or her victoria.
Point it out to them. Explain that sometimes you can get better results from speaking at a lower volume.
Excellent point. That has worked for me in the classroom. It can be challanging if the behavior has gone on for some time.
