Image plagiarism

How do you check to make sure that students are not copying other people's art work. How are you to know if it was by accident, or that the student actually stole their work?

Hi Joseph,
You have to investigate to determine if it was by accident or stolen. Typically it is either one. Generally, the work is given to another student by the student, therefore both parties are guilty.

That is a very good question. I would have to agree with the professor in that there should be adequate research done to check the authenticity of the work. Unlike with writings you can submit it through software to detect the plagiarism.

I didn't know there is such software for plagiarism. What is the software?

Hi Jamie,
One software that well detect plagiarism is turnin.com. There are a few out there for free. Google has a long list.

Turnitin.com has its limits. For instance it cannot check papers in PowerPoint or excel formats.

Hi Thomas,
As an instructor you know your students capabilities. If they turn in work that you feel is way beyond their level, begin to research. Generally something suspicious has taken place.
