Class management to me encompasses everything from the classroom atmosphere to the student’s expectations of the class. If I have outlined objectives and goals (short-term and long-term), I have made a plan. When you have a plan you have the ability to adjust that plan (hopefully, you may have foreseen some concerns and have some back up plans set in place). Not all classes will go smoothly, but if you have taken the time to consider everything imaginable with regard to your class (size, space, age of your students, content, prior or lack of prior knowledge, disruptions, tempo of your presentation, etc.), you will find each class to be challenging in a positive manner, while still providing you the opportunity to improve.

The importance is stamped by prepared materials. I have numerous day planners to go by. I have setup a binder with day planners with each days activities. I have them printed a head of time. I have extra word games printed out when I need to fill in a few minutes before class is dismissed. PM quiz is another way to alleviate the sometimes awkward time before class is let out.

Classroom management is a valuable part of education planning, as it helps to better prepare the instructor for how to handle the class and manage situations. Also, by setting a tone and procedure for the class helps students understand what is expected of them.

Hi Brittney,
It is solely the instructor's responsibility to manage the class. If the instructor does not manage the class things will get out of control. Even adult learners like structure.

Class management is essential because if you don't have propr control over the class and control, you can easily get derailed and nothing will be gained from the class. It will then in essence be a complete waste of time.

Class management is a critical part of educational planning so that students are aware of applicable policies and procedures and know what to expect. This allows them to concentrate on learning rather than figuring out what is expected of them. Class management is also critical so that instructors do not have to spend their time responding to unforseen situations and have their required policies and procedures readily available for themselves and their students.

Our classes are 5 hours long. Learners get antsy and distracted if the instructor has not planned a variety of activities. A well planned class, with several breaks, discussions sessions, small group breakout activities, and plenty of interaction, will minimize course disruption and make class management a simple task for the instructor.

Hi Cherie,
I concur! Effective class management is needed and wanted by most students. Learning can really take place if the classroom is controlled by the instructor.

Hi Shelby,
I agree! Variety is definitely needed when a class is 5 hours long. Hands-on activities serve really well when a class is of this length.

Class management is critical to educational planning because the instructor needs to be able to control the students and provide an environment conducive to learning. Ways to insure class management is to know your students and utilize methods that require student participation and inclusion. The instructor needs the student to feel he has a responsibility and a partnership, in making his learning experience a success.

I agree having an orderly structured class is the key to success. You make a lot of excellent points.

Hi Jean,
I agree! Students expect us to produce an environment for effective learning to take place. It is the instructor's responsibility to control the classroom in every way.

Patricia Scales

Classroom management is a critical part of educational planning because it sets the ground rules and structure in the classroom. Without ground rules and structure students don’t know what conduct will be expected of them. The better the classroom is managed the better the easier the learning process.

Hi Michael,
You have it! Structure is key in the educational setting. Even adults like and need structure.

Patricia Scales

The need for structure is necessary in any undertaking where there is the establishment of authority and order. And a prime example of just such a situation, is the classroom setting.

An unruly class makes learning and teaching more difficult for everyone.

Hi David,
That's the truth! It is hard to learn in an uncontrolled classroom. It is the instructor's responsibility to produce an environment that is conducive for effective learning to take place.

Patricia Scales

Class management is so important for the success of the student because it keeps the student focus, prepared, and maintain the atmosphere for learning.

Hi Shirley,
Nicely stated! It is the instructor's responsibility to provide an environment that is conducive for effective learning to take place.

Patricia Scales

from my experience it allows the students to know and understand what is to come in the future. it allows for a proactive approach to learning with no surprises.
