uniform policy
Being very firm from day one with the uniform policy at our school has helped me maintain order in class
Despite the fact that my campus has had the current uniform policy in place for several months, this is always a struggle when I introduce it on day one. Though my department chair supports me, she is rarely in the building the same time I am, and typically several students in every class tell me I am the only one who insists on compliance in this area. It's tough because I feel like with this one policy I start out with a negative relationship with these particular students...which then partially sets the tone for the class.
Hi Annie,
Continue enforcing the policies. These students will appreciate you in the end. They will never forget you because you are going to help make them the successful professional they are striving to become.

Hi Joseph,
Firmness certainly has its place in the educational setting. Sometimes we simply have to put our foot down.
Patricia
we discuss the uniform policy with the students on the first day of each module. then remind them periodically.
Hi Meher,
Students need to look the part. At my institution we send our students home if they are out of dress code.

I agree becuase if you allow the students to slcak then they will, but if you put your foot down the first day you should have any problems.
Hi Crystal,
It is just that simple, we get from students what we expect. Let's set the standards high, yet attainable.

Hi Annie,
I sometimes have the same problem. Previous instructors are too easy on the students and that makes me the bad guy. I've decided to cut the uniform inspection out of the first day. Instead, I spend some time reviewing the uniform policy, but give them a pass on day one. I also like to explain that like each boss in the professional world, each instructor runs his or her class differently and they are fortunate to experience many different types of leaders during their education.
