How to motivate a student

Partner a weak student with a stronger student in a team or group approach.

Postive re-enforcement is a must, and student normally would like to feel that they are"getting it". Therefore, by the student being actively involve in the learning process would lead to greater motivation, than just spoon feeding the student.

By making they take a leadership role in the class they feel important and motivated.

Hi Dr. Junior,
Students need to feel as though that they have a sense of ownership in their education. When they feel like they have ownership, they are more likely to be motivated and involved

Empower students to make their own decisions while still providing positive reinforcement and extra help when needed.

taking personal interest in thier learning process, tutorings and keep thier interest alive.

I find this approach very successful; however, this must be monitored to ensure both attitudes are in alignment and equal effort is being put forth.
I seek a weak students strengths and try to select a partner/personalilty that allows this student to triumph and build their confidence.
I engage this type of team to assist the Chef together and assign responsibilities. This empowers them and makes them feel needed & appreciated.

I put students in certain small groups to get them motivated and then to take it further will have the student that needs motivation act as the speaker for the small group.

Partnering weak students with academicaly strong students encourages a positives peer learning environment.

Treat them like adults, set timelines, be sure to communicate expectations, demonstrate relevance to the topic presented.

I think we should be careful with this approach because you don't want them to feel that you are pawing them off to another student.
