Instructor mistakes

I remember my first time teaching. You do worry and mess up. I had to create a seating chart because I messed up the students names horribly and made a mess of my attendance. Which was very frustrating for them and me.

Well, I find if you allow the student to sit where they make individual a litte more confortable. Also you can design your seating chart according to that because the student would 95% of the time sit in the same seat.

In the last group of students we had so many with the same name and then a set of twins, rather difficult....but, the students are being tested all the time, so that was my test, to learn them all by name. Each class start I give myself three class meetings to get it down.

One of my biggest mistakes is remembering the students' names. I try to identify each student with a specific feature to help me remember their names. I definitely laugh at myself and apologize when I make this mistakes. However, I understand the importance of learning their names as soon as possible. Besides the seating chart, are there any other strategies to help learn the students' names faster?

Hi Huyen,
You may want to try name tags/name tents for the first few weeks.

Allowing sutdents to be called by their name as a form of respect is a powerful tool to use.
