im nervous, but deep down inside, i know i can do this. with preparation i can be a great teacher
The best advice I can give is not to fall into the trap of being a students friend, and learn that you do not have to have a complete dominant attitude either. The trick is to create a balanced approach, in which the students will respect you. Keep in mind, you may have to earn respect with some students, not by being their friend but by being a caring teacher.
Being a New Instructor can be challenging. The most important thing you can do is to be be prepared and know your syllabus. Knowing what you are going to cover before class will help with new instructor anxiety.
I am a new instructor. Yes, I am new to teaching, but I have 25 years of knowledge and personal experience in cosmetology. I always remind myself of that.
Hi Cheryl,
Being nervous is really natural, just do not let the nervousness control you where you are unable to perform. Once you begin to settle in the nervousness generally goes away.

Since you know you can do it, don't be nervous, because students can read your behavior and make it more miserable for you.
I was very nervous when I did my first and second powerpoint presentation, but I found that after the next few I got better and become more relaxed. I try just talking to my students and now that all the nerves have settled done I feel comfortable in my role as an instructor. I couldn't be happier I truly believe I was meant to do this job I mean career.
Also, please trust yourself. You have the tools to be a great instructor. When you finally start teaching, it will become second nature to you!
I absolutely agree. If you truly care about the material and the students your desire to learn how to present the material will help you prepare and time and experience will be a great teacher. Let those around you help you.
Yes You Can. If you care about your performance as a professional you will automatically put in the work. Then you just keep getting better with time. A good supporting faculty helps a great deal.
