Instructors are also human and at times will make mistakes when this happens it is best to acknowledge them and move on
I agree we can use those errors as a learning tool of how to move on with professionalism & grace or humor. One thing I have learned through the years of teaching is that our students are watching us & hearing us even when we don't think so. If we acknowledge the mistake & deal with it, hopefully our students will remember how we handled it, and use what they learned from us in the workplace with the same professionalism.
I agree with that. I have a sheet that I have the students sign the first day of class letting them know the rules of the class and what is expected of them and then have them sign it. I believe it shows that you are prepared for the class, the student knows what is expected of them, but I also state that if there is any personal issue that need to be discusseed to please let me know so that I can help them.
I agree we are human, and we can't possibly know everything about the field that we teach. I have had to admit to a class that I didn't have the answer, but I wrote down the question that was asked and presented it to the group the next day. I reminded them that we don't know everything, but more importantly we need to know where and when to look up the answers.
