As an instructor better to be reapected
All your sstudents will not always like you but if the classroom is manged well and in order, the
students will respect you
I agree. I respect my students and listen to their concerns and commentary. I have an open door policy and follow through as appropriate. But the students know that I am their teacher and not their friend.
Hi Douglas,
I love your perspective! You are there for your students, but they fully understand you are their instructor and not trying to gain any friendship. Our students need more role models, not more friends.

I absolutely agree. You will never please everyone, but if you are fair and just . . . students will respect you. Respect will eventually turn into "like," in some format. Also, students want to know that you're not going to play favorites . . . so even if some try to get away with breaking policies and rules, being respected will go a lot farther than having a few students "like" you.
