gen y
I am in total agreement. Reading directions is a skill that needs to be taught in every aspect of automotive technology. It seems the Gen Y student wants the easy way out. They need an instant answer. Pull out there phone and google it is easier.
I agree.I have this problem with many of Gen y students.they ask the why question and if I have them do the diagnosis themselves, which is the correct way to learn the answer, i get unhappy responses. anylitical thinking to trace and diagnose takes time and determination. This is what must me learned by many of them. Not always an instant yes or no answer.
I call this the McDonald's effect. I want what I want now and I really don't want to apply alot of thinking to it.
I face this difficulty a lot with environmental issues. It is difficult for them to understand none of the issues have direct answers. However, it also teaches them to view problems differently.
This is where the lack of understanding comes from. To engage the topic on a deeper level, takes more ambition than most bring with them to class. I think these ideas could help that immensely.
