I would like to be a learner in my class because I try to keep it interactive and fun. When teaching med terminology we make a doll in order to learn body planes (gingerbread men or snowmen in winter, fish in summer, hearts in feb, etc.) to demonstrate our terms. We also play hot potatoe or hot reindeer to review. I never have them sitting for long!
I try to aid in understanding the information in my class not just being able to repeat it. I want the students be able to know why they needed to know something, not just to simply know it.
I like that I structure my lectures to meet the different styles of learners. I like to have alot of hands- on.
Every now and then it is good to broaden your view and think like a learner. It can offer new insights.
This has given me something to think about. I really had not thought about it from that perspective. Thanks for the new viewpoint.
I agree it is important to treat all the students equally and give them the knowledge they need.
I would like to be learner in my Class because as an instructor I make my lecture very intresting and see that all the students get the knowledge they are supposed to have.I treat all student equally and follow all the rules.

I agree facial and body language tell you much about how a student is feeling. Thanks for the great reminder!
Reading student's faces is important when gauging how well I have their attention and if they are "getting it".
Vanessa, I'm glad you would want to be a learner in your class. Good luck in all you do as a teacher!
I would want to be a leaner in my own class, because you learn something new everyday, that you can interpret in you class while you teaching... It also gives you new ways of teaching so that the leaners/student in you class can understand the information given to their fullest effort
I would want to be a learner in my own class because in the process of teaching the materials there are always an opportunity for the instructor to learn as well from the students. Just because we are teachers doesn't mean we know it all, we are still in the process of learning new things daily.
You are modeling a useful career skill for your learners. Admitting there is always more to learn, and teaching them how to find that information is a great gift.
I have real life experience in my field that I bring to the classroom. I am real with my students. If I do not know, I will not just make up an answer. If there is a chapter that I struggle with, I let them know up front that it is not my area of expertise.
Pop culture is also a great tool to get and keep learner interest. Good to hear you are following in the footsteps of your mom.
I like to bring in both my real world experience and pop culture to both connect with my students and to make my classes intersting.
I learned this quality from my mother (who is a teacher) as well as my previous teachers that I respected and enjoyed.
I agree, Bonnie, those late classes are the hardest to keep engaged. Sounds like your say-spell-define activity serves to wake them up and reinforce your lessons. Thanks for sharing it with all of us.
I always come to class prepared and always make my expectations clear to the students. I feel that being prepared helps me relax and be comfortable in my role, and it also allows the students to relax becasue they know what to expect from me and what I expect from them. I try to create an interesting learning environment and make sure I have more than enough material prepared for each class so that if one thing isn't working I can easily try another approach.
One think I have tried on several occasions that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't is a game I call "say-spell-define". I write vocabulary words on flash cards. A student takes a card and tries to correctly pronounce the word". If they do it correctly, they score a point for their team, and one of their team mates tries to spell the word correctly. Once the word is spelled correctly, thenext person gives the definiton. When someone give an incorrdct answer, a player from the other team gets to try, until that team gives an incorrect answer. Sometimes if the group is too large some of the students seem to lose interest. Other times, they really stay engaged and have a lot of fun with it. This is a good activity to do when there are just a few minutes to spare, or when they are getting sleepy (those classes taht go until 10:00 pm are tough to keep engaging!).
