Amer, I would like to be a student in your class, also. When a teacher values the individuals he teaches as you have described here, it is a win win for all.
I personally would want to be a learner in my class because I am an encouraging person, and I try to engage everyone in the classroom, so no one is ever left behind. As a student, I would never want to feel invisible, and I try to not let my students feel that way. I am also a firm believer of repetition so I tend to do a lot of reviewing. I enjoy what I teach, and I make sure to pass on that energy to my students to ensure that it is a positive learning environment.
I try to make classes more fun--I use my own experiences (good or bad) to show them we all learn on different levels. We laugh at me or someone else has a story to tell and everyone relaxes.
I'm glad to hear you see yourself as a learner, too. The best teachers I have had see themselves this way, also.
Tiana, your students benefit from your approach and attitude. Keep on working to be a better and better educator, because that desire will make you a successful teacher.
I would want to be a learner in my own class continue to get better at teaching the material to my classes. For the most part, I agree with just about everyone else on the forum.
I try games with the students, active learning activities, and also keep the mood light with jokes here and there. I think that some humor thrown in will keep the atmosphere stress free. So when it comes time to really take learning serious, everyone is on board.
I am always willing to do something new so they won't become board.
I am a learner in my classes everyday. Its what I love most about teaching. Every student brings their experiences to class and everyone benefits.
I try to change my lecture pace and format every 30 minutes so as to help maintain my students attention.
Being willing to recognize and change how you are teaching based on student reaction is key to being a great teacher.
As an instructor, you learn or find something about yourself based on the reactions of your students. For example, how students respond to lecture? If they aren't paying attention, perhaps, a change in the style of teaching might become necessary.
I'd like to be a learner in your class if all those variables are happening. Thank you for sharing your feelings.
I would want to be a learner in my own class because its fun, we play medical terminology games, the instructor is easy to approach, the class room environment is motivating, and safe. the students fill out reflection cards at the end of class to communicate how the class lesson made them feel.
You are absolutely right, and seeing those light bulbs go on is what makes me love my job!
Cynthia, I agree that it is a new language and gives one a sense of accomplishment when it is mastered.
If you listen to the feedback from your students and it is positive, you know you are on the right track, Debbie. Great job!
Wendy. I wish ever instructor I met would take your approach. Relating content to real life is essential for students to be able to problem solve once they get on the job.
Kimberly, using a variety of methods to teach, helps to build retention of material. That is our ultimate goal.
I would like to be a learner in my class because learning medical technology is like learning a new language, it is exciting to be able to understand a language that most of the population does not understand. This ability now allows me to use this skill in my future career and personal life.
I get positive feed back from my students as to the way I present the course material. I teach the way I would want to be taught. Therefore, I'd want to be in my own class to participate in the demonstrations, A/V presentations, and group discussions.
