Gary, questions are the ultimate assessment and evaluation tools for an instructor. Thank you for sharing your experience with them.

I often learn from the questions that my students present. These can help me present the information in a different way. If they didn't fully understand the first time I can try diagrams, videos, or other sources to explain the information. The more sources we can use the more repetition they will experience.
Mark, I would like to be s learner in your class, too. You know the value of a safe, energetic learning environment, and students need that to be successful.
Michele Deck
Some reasons to be a learner in my own class would be that I love the use of my 'real life examples' or experiences to the current topic.
I use "fun" as much as I can to keep my students active learning. I care about the success of all the students and it shows in the way I come to class prepared, and with my open door policy students know I'm the teacher when ever they need me.
Vania , it is valuable not only to incorporate review, but to give the learners a chance to see its value as you have described.

I also believe in repetition, I think students feel more confortable with the class, and at the end of the module they feel more confident that they have learned the content of the class and they are sure they assimilated the important concepts of the subject.
Mabel, this si the expectation of a great teacher, and your students will benefit from your approach.
Michele Deck
Each time I teach a class, I look for new material, new "games", new ways to involve individual students. I remember my student days where the instructor read each power point slide like we were not capable of reading it on our own. I never want to resort to that mode. I expect my classes to look over the material PRIOR to class, and I build on the content with real-life experiences and examples.
Joseph, it is important that you plan teaching methods in each of the styles as you are describing here. Keep up the good work.
Michele Deck
R. Maurice, it is so important that students have multiple visits to content. They must not only recall, but use the content appropriately. Combining approaches is the key to success
Michele Deck
People are all different an we have different ways that we retain or learn information. I enjuoy classes that utilize different types of teachin styles to reinforce the same type of information, to my classes make the most of games along with tactical stimulation for the kinesthetic learner, power points along with videos for the cisual learner, and lecure as well as audio recording for the audio learner.
Remembering (most of) the terms used in medical billing and coding is difficult, if not nearly impossible, for some students. So repeat after me......
The students first view of terms begins with the textbook assignment that has key (medical or coding) terms. The students then have a series of lectures (with PowerPoint) and exercises in the prime coding areas -- inpatient hospital coding (ICD-9 procedures); diagnosis coding and then professional (CPT) coding. They also have a term project that ties all the billing and coding areas together. Along the way they also have short mini-quizzes. By the time the get to the final exam, the will have been exposed at least eight times to the key terms necessary.

I am too a big proponent of repetition and I go about repeating concepts and terms several times in various ways. When I'm covering material for the first time, I ask questions of the students that they would be able to answer based on context, etc. Then, during my review sessions, I review by asking student volunteers to give explanations, etc. I am so happy when I can get many different students to respond to my questions and participate in the class. I use stories and some humor to help students remember things as well as analogies and either established or just plain silly mneumonic devices. Students really respond well to that and it's great to see them smiling.
Barbara, I hope this idea with scenarios gives you another way to use them.
Michele Deck
I use scenarios in my teaching, to help students relate to the material. That keeps them involved and help them to learn.
I try to connect the information to the student leaner not only by repetition but by also putting to real world application when ever possible.
Susan, having the learners ahring their real world experience shows them the relevance of the lesson.
Michele Deck
I would want to be a learner in my own class because when I teach a subject I try to give real life examples and relate the information to real life responsiblities. I also encourage the students to share their own life experiences that relate to the subject at hand.
