One of the most successful lectures I give in dental materials is when I have access to the lab for the cement unit. I lecture on a particular cement, show the students how to mix it and then have them mix the cement themselves. I then continue on to the next cement. Unfortunately I do not always have access to the lab. I tried this approach in the lecture hall but discontinued after I had to explain the mess.
Learn once, do once, teach once. Tried and true, how I remember being taught and how I continue to teach. Self explanatory really...
Niani, using both the analytical approach and the active approach gives better results in learning.

I find it most effective when explain subject, and then show them how to do it. They seem to learn the material better.
