Crossword Puzzles

I can see how crossword puzzles would be beneficial to those who have little knowledge of medical terminology. It gives the students a chance to play around with the words privately before taking the 'risk' of public use.

Michael, yes, this does lower the risk of embarrassment or ridicule to every student who is a novice at terminology.

I agree...this could probably also be done as a team activity in the classroom.

I currently use crossword puzzles in my terminology classes and the students enjoy them. It is a fun way to learn and it makes them think in a different way by trying to figure out the best use of the term based on the question and the way the word fits into the puzzle.

I use crossword puzzles as a class activity with each chapters key terms. The students are provided the definition and must insert the appropriate term into the puzzle. They really seem to enjoy it.

Rhonda, it sounds like you are fostering critical thinking in your learners with this approach.

Yes some people arent' very good at cross word puzzles

Tami, it can be a win win if you team those who are good at the puzzles with those who are not.

I have had the occasion to use crossword puzzles as individual homework assignments and as team competitions in class. as teams they can search individually but submission must be from team. Opposing teams may challenge words used.

Clifton, this is a highly successful and relevant activity.
